Today I went grocery shopping, I bought the regular stuff. I got turkey, bottles of water, broccoli, some cheerio's, you know, the necessities. Now, I had a great shopping experience, Wegman's was full of happy people and pleasant workers. But, I have to admit, their pricing of their frozen peas were a bit much so on the advice of a friend, I decided to go to Aldi's to save a dollar on each bag. I'm happy I did so, it saved me like 20 bucks. Awesome. But I would have paid the full price just for the ability to see the most unhappy people on the planet. First off all, there is no fucking escaping this place without going down the first row COMPLETELY. Forgot your wallet? Fuck you, keep looking at our Easter candy! Whatever. I go in, I can't find shit. What kind of retarded douche bag designed this store? I asked someone, just for fun, where their toothpaste was, she looked at me like I was some sort of fucking space invader asking to check her pulse with my cock. She responds in one of the most confusingly condescending voice "It's by the deodorant. What? Is this your first time here?" First off, die. Second of all, where the fuck is the deodorant? What a bullshit store. There's no signs anywhere, how am I supposed to navigate this clusterfuck of savings? Also, hey there cunty cashier, thanks for literally SITTING ON YOUR ASS ALL DAY AND MOVING ONLY YOUR ARMS and acting like you've been busting your ass all day. I sit on my ass all day too but at least I do my job with a smile, you look like your frustrated like a frigid wife. What's the matter? are you still trying to get the cum stains out of your hair from a night of heavy drinking and bukkake gargling? I hate that fucking place. Please, go to Save-A-Lot or visit Chris Gullo and Price Right, don't go to Aldi's, that place is horrible.

DMX and security guards got into a fracas at the Phil Long Expo Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., Oct. 16 when the hip-hop star tried to take the stage. Reports vary as to why the incident, caught on camera, took place.

Footage shows DMX and his handlers arguing with security, allegedly after 11 p.m. The guards told DMX he missed his unusually early headlining start time of 9:30 p.m. and the crowd was already told he was not performing.

Someone informs the guards that if DMX doesn't take the stage, there could be a riot, to which one responds, "We already have a riot."

DMX was later tackled as he attempted to get to the stage, according to various reports and film footage, and apparently got on stage to find the sound system turned off.
J. Baldrick of record label Dirty Limelight / Hustle Hard took to the Internet to claim DMX was actually told to wait until 11 p.m. by promoter Soulclay Entertainment. He says the promotion company had paid DMX only about half of his performance fee.

The accusation that DMX arrived late and was not permitted to perform was a ploy by the promoters to avoid paying the balance, Baldrick claimed.

DMX's publicist reportedly received a concussion and lacerations during the scuffle. The event was a benefit for American Charities.

NFL fines Ray Lewis $25,000 for hit on Ochocinco

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The NFL fined Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis $25,000 on Friday for two separate plays, including a helmet-to-helmet hit on Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco.

The Ravens said Lewis will appeal the fine.

Both plays occurred in the fourth quarter of Baltimore's 17-14 loss on Sunday. The league deemed that Lewis "unnecessarily kicked the opponent" and later "unnecessarily struck a defenseless receiver."

During the latter play, Lewis hit Ochocinco after a pass from Carson Palmer sailed incomplete, and the 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness helped set up the winning touchdown with 22 seconds remaining.

Ochocinco lost his helmet during the collision, but immediately popped up from the turf. After the game, the boisterous receiver used his Twitter account to ask NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for leniency.

"Please don't fine Ray Lewis Mr. Roger Goodell, it was a clean hit, it's part of the game, save the fines for me," Ochocinco wrote.

Asked Wednesday if he expected to be fined, Lewis replied, "Probably."

But the standout middle linebacker said that's just how he plays the game.

"If I had to change anything, I would do it the same way I've done it," Lewis said. "I will never slow down my speed, the way I play this game. I've never played this game to hurt anybody.

"But the bottom line is, when I turn to go, I'm like a missile. When I'm locked in, I'm locked in. Whatever's there is there. Worrying about fines and all that, I'll let that take care of itself. The NFL does a great job with that. You call them and discuss it with them."

On Friday, Lewis said, "I'm not talking about no fine."

Coach John Harbaugh said, "I'm disappointed. You hate to see that."

Asked about the play in which Lewis allegedly kicked a player, Harbaugh said, "It was an inadvertent trip that happened."

Harbaugh added: "Ray Lewis is a tough, a physical guy. Ray Lewis is also as a great a sportsman as I've met. He plays good, clean football. I guarantee you the shot on Ochocinco was in the strike zone. I want to stand behind Ray in that sense."

Michael Vick: Lands his very own TV Show on BET. Dog killer to Actor in less than 2 years

He's out of prison, back in the NFL, and now Michael Vick is going to star in his own television series.

The quarterback, who took his first regular-season pro snap just two weeks ago after serving 18 months in prison, is partnering with BET for a new eight-part docu-series scheduled to air early next year. The program, tentatively titled "The Michael Vick Project," spotlights his controversial comeback with the Philadelphia Eagles while also examining his tumultuous past -- including his troubled childhood and his 2007 arrest for running a dogfighting ring.

"I just want people to really get to know me as an individual," Vick said last week in an interview from his home in Philadelphia. "What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I've made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it's not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up."

The onetime NFL star's decision to expose his private life to a television audience follows a flurry of recent news and sports media interviews, which began with "60 Minutes" in mid-August. The Vick series is a gamble for a quarterback who is eager to rehabilitate his tarnished image but also doesn't want to incur the further wrath of animal rights protesters, many of whom argued against his reinstatement to the NFL.

That may be difficult. Officials with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals expressed skepticism about the project.

"People who abuse animals don't deserve to be rewarded," said PETA spokesman Dan Shannon. "They shouldn't be given multimillion-dollar contracts . . . or given the privilege of being a role model.

"We don't believe Michael Vick understands the seriousness of his crime. I think he's sorry he got caught, but only time will tell if he's truly remorseful."

The project is being produced by DuBose Entertainment; Vick's production company, MV7 Productions; and Category 5 Entertainment. No one associated with the production would comment on Vick's compensation for the series. In August, a federal judge approved Vick's six-year plan to repay creditors an estimated $20 million and emerge from bankruptcy.

Producers of the Vick series emphasized the program should be considered a docu-series -- not a typical reality show like VH-1's "The T.O. Show," which revels in the excesses of its flamboyant star, wide receiver Terrell Owens. The tone of Vick's show, say producers, will be serious and somber as it focuses on his personal struggles since his release, including the strains on his relationships with his fiancée, Kijafa Frink, and his children. It will also revisit the federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan., where Vick spent 1 1/2 years behind bars and the Virginia property where he ran and financed a dogfighting ring.

"This show can be a blueprint for so many kids," he said. "I want to show them that things are going to happen, that they're not going to get through life without dealing with some kind of adversity. I want to show that if they have a fall from grace, this is how they can turn it around. We want this to be a story of hope."

James DuBose, executive producer for the project, said the series would be much more illuminating than Vick's recent media interviews.

"We've heard the results, but we have not seen the process of how Michael got to where he was," said DuBose, who has produced several reality-based series for BET.

"This is the raw storytelling of what happened, why and how."

The project has the support of the Eagles, the NFL and former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, who has acted as Vick's mentor since his imprisonment, say the producers. Also on board, they say, is the Humane Society, which has enlisted Vick in its battle to end the widespread abuse of dogs in the inner city.

BET's new entertainment chief, Loretha Jones, says the Vick project fits squarely into the network's new branding strategy of family values, cultural uplift and community pride. When she learned several months ago that Vick was being released, Jones was immediately interested in developing a series around him.

"I did not reach out for this show in order to court controversy," said Jones. "That's not where we're taking the network. . . . It's important for us to capture this important moment to see what someone does when they have the opportunity to rebuild themselves. It might serve as a road map for young men facing the same challenge."

The series will not downplay Vick's notorious past, Jones emphasized.

"No way are we excusing or minimizing the atrocity that Michael was involved in," she said. "Michael makes no attempt to do that. It is inexcusable. However, there are numerous public figures who have engaged in egregious behavior and have been given a second chance."

Vick is aware that the series may do little to alter the negative perception some hold against him.

"All I can ask is that people are receptive and come to this with an open mind," said Vick. "I can't change the past, I can only change the present. I know there are people who can't forget what I did, but I hope they can someday forgive me."

Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James(notes) doesn't like former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards very much, particularly after the wide receiver got into some kind of scuffle with one of James' friends outside a Cleveland nightclub. And now the pair don't have to share the same city since Edwards was traded to the New York Jets.

There is a fear in New York, though, that the presence of Edwards in the Big Apple could hurt the chances of the New York Knicks to sign LeBron James to a deal next summer when he will be an unrestricted free agent, according to the New York Post. The Knicks were already working against the fact that the Cavs can pay James more money than they can and that the Cavaliers have built a strong team around James but the Edwards deal may be the final nail in the coffin. James is staying mum: "Nothing to comment on," James said. "You guys never asked me before about any other trades in the NFL. It's not my sport to worry about."

Still, if the Knicks can get another big name to sign early in free agency next summer and lob as much cash as possible at James, the team is still hoping to reel him in.

Right now it's looking like a pipe dream.

After nearly nine years of incarceration for his party in a shooting at a Manhattan night club in 1999, Bad Boy Records recording artist Shyne is finally set for release in October.

Last month, an order was signed by a Manhattan judge setting an October 6th release for the rapper, after serving eight years and some change of a 10-year sentence.

At the time, Shyne was just 21-year-old. He's has grown up in prison, and is now 30.

With less than two weeks to go, his former boss Diddy recently revealed that he and Shyne are on speaking terms, and there is no more beef.

The hip-hop mogul phoned into New York's Hot 97 radio station recently, saying he's happy Shyne is finally coming home.

"It's a blessing that [Shyne's] coming home," Diddy said. "I spoke to him like a couple of weeks ago and he sounded like he was in good spirits. I know he can't wait to get home. I know he is definitely going to heat the whole scene up. He was definitely one of talented young artists that I had the pleasure to work with. I'm quite sure he's been using his time wisely and has some heat."

Shyne (real name: Jamal Barrow) was sentenced to 10 years back in June 2001, for his role in the highly publicized shootout at Manhattan's Club New York in 1999, where he, Diddy and his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were partying.

The sentence was the result of several convictions, including two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession.

When the sentence was given out, Diddy called it "unfair and extreme," but Shyne later revealed some animosity toward the Bad Boy Records head while being interviewed in 2004, in support of his sophomore album, Godfather Buried Alive.

"How do you call a witness to testify against your comrade? That don't make no sense. If I'm telling you that [the club bouncer] is lying, and you saying 'Well hey, she's helping me' -- I'm facing 25 years. You looking at probation," Shyne explained in an interview with MTV.

"Those types of things are unacceptable. You don't have to hold my hand, you don't have to do nothing. But don't try to hurt me. That's intentional," he added.

Godfather Buried Alive was released through Def Jam Records, and was eventually certified gold.

A Texas golfer has died after he fell over an embankment while trying to retrieve his golf ball.

Richardson police Sgt. Kevin Perlich says 61-year-old William Michael Grant of Garland was playing in a golf tournament Friday at Sherrill Park Golf Course when he overshot a green.

Police say Grant was trying to get his ball when witnesses saw him slip and fall about 10 feet. Perlich says it appears Grant broke his neck, but the medical examiner's office has not yet confirmed that.

Grant was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

MINNEAPOLIS -- It turns out that Percy Harvin can dish out headaches as well as get them.

Harvin, who missed two days of practice this past week because of migraines, is starting to give defensive and special team coaches fits.

Harvin made another big impact in the Vikings' 27-24 win over San Francisco on Sunday. In the third quarter, with the Vikings down 17-13, he returned a kickoff 101 yards for a touchdown.

After the 49ers kicked a field goal, Harvin took a kickoff 1-yard deep in his own end zone. He cut to the middle of the field, then headed left, made one sharp cut back to the middle of the field and he was gone, going untouched for a touchdown.

"I stumbled a little bit," Harvin said. "I could have took it either way but the cutback was going to give me a cleaner alley so like I said, the blockers did all the work and I did the easy part."

Harvin became the first player in team history to score a touchdown in the first three games of his career. He also has the most kickoff return yards (358) after three games in team history.

He caught TD passes in his first two games. On Sunday he had four catches for 51 yards. He returned four kicks for 180 yards and lost eight yards on his only rushing attempt.

NOT SO SPECIAL: The Vikings had a chance to take a 16-7 lead when Ryan Longwell lined up for a 44-yard field goal on the final play of the half. But Ray McDonald split past rookie Phil Loadholt and Steve Hutchinson to block the kick. Nate Clements scooped the ball up and raced 59 yards for a touchdown. The 10-point swing gave the 49ers a big lift, and a 14-13 lead at the half.

"The guard fell down and I have to crack down more," Loadholt said. "I got to get down there faster than that. I have to make sure that I cover my guys better than that."

"All I know is that should be a fairly routine play, and it wasn't," Vikings coach Brad Childress said.

PLENTY OF OPTIONS: Vikings quarterback Brett Favre completed passes to seven players and four different wide receivers. Sidney Rice, Bernard Berrian and Greg Lewis all caught passes of 30 yards or more, with Rice and Lewis scoring TDs.

The Vikings threw a few more passes deeper down field than in previous games.

"We know we're capable of spreading the field and getting the ball down field," Rice said.

Favre was 26-for-48 for 301 yards. It marked the first time a Vikings quarterback had thrown for 300 yards in 63 games.

THE WALL: It looks The Wall has returned. The Vikings had allowed an average of 109 yards rushing a game in the first two games after leading the league in fewest rushing yards allowed the past three seasons. The Vikings returned to their stingy form against the 49ers.

San Francisco had top back Frank Gore for just one carry on Sunday, and he gained four yards before re-injuring his ankle. Glen Coffee took Gore's place, but the rookie managed just 54 yards on 25 carries. For the day the 49ers had 58 yards on 26 attempts, just 2.2 yards a rush.

"We obviously knew they wanted to run the ball," Vikings linebacker Ben Leber said. "We had to step up."

The Vikings topped the 49ers on a third-and-1 midway through the first quarter. In fact the defense forced four straight three-and-outs in the opening quarter.

"I think that up front we played well and really accepted the challenge of who was the more physical team," defensive end Jared Allen said.

The biggest stop by the defense came late in the game. The 49ers took over on downs at their own 47 with 1:49 left. The Vikings limited three rushing plays to six yards, and called a timeout after each stop. The 49ers were able to run just 20 seconds off the clock and had to punt, leading to the winning Vikings touchdown drive.

"Defensively at that time, we were just trying to get off the field," linebacker Chad Greenway said.

LITTLE RUSH: While the Vikings were stout against the run, they did allow a pair of touchdown passes. Ex-Viking Shaun Hill was 15-for-25 for 195 yards to a pair of TD tosses to tight end Vernon Davis.

The Vikings got on interception, by Cedric Griffin, but they managed just one sack, by Jared Allen on the first pass play of the game. Allen forced a fumble on the play, but the 49ers recovered.

"They hit the passes when they needed to," Allen said. "We knew that was their thing. Shaun Hill got rid of the ball quick, and was really good on the short and medium passes."

HAPPY, THEN SAD RETURNS: Darius Reynaud had a 32-yard punt return on the final play of the first quarter. But he suffered a left hamstring injury on a 10-yard punt return in the third quarter. Bernard Berrian took over for Reynaud and returned the final two punts by the 49ers for a total of 13 yards.

FIRST PICK: Favre threw his first interception of the season on a deflected pass with just over nine minutes left in the third quarter.

Shawntae Spencer picked off the pass. That led to a Joe Nedney field goal for a 17-13 San Francisco lead. Harvin returned the following kickoff for his touchdown.

Something was bubbling inside his combustible, diamond-studded skull. And as Terrell Owens sat on the bench, massaging his forehead after another quiet series, the outcome looked grim for the Buffalo Bills.

They were winning, beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their home opener without his help, and that was part of the problem. Owens does not suffer silence well, which is why the deep ball thrown by quarterback Trent Edwards a few minutes later probably did as much for the sanity of football fans across Western New York as it did the outcome.

Owens caught the pass in full flight to the end zone, a 43-yard catch that went for his first touchdown in Buffalo, adding some security in a 33-20 win. Running back Fred Jackson was the star, carrying 28 times for 163 yards, but Owens remained the unquestioned celebrity by leaving everyone wondering exactly what he was thinking.

The 35-year-old receiver slipped from Ralph Wilson Stadium without uttering a word to reporters. Owens also restrained his formidable speaking talents after the season opener, and is assured to maintain his position as the king of online fan forums and talk radio.

“It will be about T.O.,” linebacker Kawika Mitchell said. “Don’t worry about that.”

Owens finished with three catches for 52 yards. He was only targeted five times — Tampa Bay threw to tight end Kellen Winslow 10 times — and was headed for a second straight quiet finish before the touchdown. The cheers in the crowd masked the sigh of relief.

“We had just picked up a first down and they were on their heels a little bit,” Edwards said. “We caught them in an all-out blitz, and Terrell did the rest. You’ve just got to throw the ball as far as you can, and he’ll run under it.”

The twin threat of Owens and fellow receiver Lee Evans was established early, with a 32-yard touchdown to Evans in the first quarter, softening the middle of Tampa’s defence for Jackson. Buffalo took a 14-0 lead before the game was nine minutes old when free safety Donte Whitner returned an interception 76 yards for a touchdown.

Buffalo was coasting, and the fans — having marinated in the parking lots for three hours longer than usual thanks to the 4 p.m. kickoff — were verging on delirium. They craved it, after another manic opening to a season in a city filled with football neurotics.

Still vulnerable after the late-game collapse against New England, the crowd hushed after Jackson fumbled deep in Tampa territory in the second quarter.

Buccaneers safety Sabby Piscitelli recovered and sprinted 72 yards downfield, setting up a short pass from Byron Leftwich to running back Cadillac Williams that cut Buffalo’s lead to 20-14, where it remained for an uncertain eternity.

And the news kept getting worse. The Bills lost right tackle Brad Butler to a knee injury in the second quarter, weakening an already inexperienced offensive line. Cornerback Leodis McKelvin was soon lost to an undisclosed ankle injury and tight end Derek Schouman was carted off the field in the third quarter. He left as the team’s leading receiver.

Owens, meanwhile, came and went without notice until his touchdown.

He had caused a minor stir by not speaking with reporters after the 25-24 loss to New England. And there was another swirl of smoke around comments he made to reporters mid-week about his lack of involvement in the offence under Edwards.

“It’s always a work in progress,” Owens said. “And Trent has to better assess what he’s seeing out there and take some shots down the field.”

By finally taking that shot Sunday, Edwards might have avoided — or, at least, delayed —an explosion.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The MTV video music awards held on Sunday paid tribute to the late Michael Jackson, but was overshadowed by an outburst by rapper Kanye West, who interrupted an acceptance speech by U.S. singer Taylor Swift.

West, who is known for his outspoken ways, jumped up on stage while the 19-year-old Swift was making an acceptance speech for best female video for her hit song "You Belong With Me," beating out singers including Beyonce Knowles and Lady Gaga.

"I am really happy for you," West said. "But Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time."

MTV said West, who was spotted earlier on the red carpet drinking alcohol, was ejected from an awards show already known for its circus-like atmosphere. West received loud boos from the crowd when his name was mentioned later in the show.

West apologized on his website. "I'm sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom," he wrote. "... I'm in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment!"

Beyonce took the show's top honor -- video of the year -- for her single "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" before recalling her first MTV award with her old band, Destiny's Child, and calling back Swift to the Radio City Music Hall stage to finish her acceptance speech.

"I would like Taylor to come out and have her moment," she said, before the country music star reappeared and thanked her fans.

MTV said Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Green Day won three awards apiece, the most of any artists on this year's awards show.

JACKSON TRIBUTE

The cable channel's awards show began with a tribute to Jackson less than three months after the man known as the King of Pop died from what authorities call a prescription drug overdose at age 50.

"Most of us had turned our backs on him," Madonna said in a speech at the beginning of the awards that recalled his lost childhood. "He was so unique, so original, so rare and there will never be anyone like him again. He was the king."

Performers dressed like Jackson filled the stage and danced to some of his hit songs including "Thriller," "Bad" and "Smooth Criminal."

Janet Jackson then appeared on stage. With the video for her brother's song "Scream" playing on a screen behind her, she mimicked his dance moves in unison with the video. She did not speak.

Michael Jackson promoted many of his ground-breaking videos on MTV in the 1980s.

Quarterback Brett Favre is expected to sign a contract Tuesday with the Minnesota Vikings to come out of retirement again and play for the team this season, according to several reports.

Favre reportedly is scheduled to join the club and undergo a physical and, barring any unexpected snags, is to sign a one-year deal worth approximately $12 million.

Favre declined an invitation by the Vikings to report to training camp with them last month, saying at the time he wasn't certain that he could play a full season at this point in his career at a level of performance he considered satisfactory. Vikings Coach Brad Childress said at the time that the club would not renew its pursuit of Favre.

But Favre also left open the possibility even then that he would change his mind if the Vikings called him during the season.

It would mark the second straight offseason that Favre has come out of retirement to resume his playing career.

Childress confirmed Tuesday to the Associated Press that Favre was traveling to Minneapolis and told the AP in an e-mail that the team would sign Favre later in the day "in a perfect world."

WCCO-TV in Minneapolis first reported that Favre is expected to sign a contract Tuesday afternoon with the Vikings. WISN-TV in Milwaukee had reported earlier that Favre and his wife, Deanna, had boarded a plane with a Vikings logo on it in Hattiesburg, Miss., to travel to Minneapolis.

The Vikings and Favre reportedly had a tentative agreement for a one-year contract in place when Favre declined to report to training camp, telling Childress at the time that he would stay retired.

That decision shocked many people within the NFL who had assumed that Favre would play for the Vikings this season.

Favre underwent offseason surgery for the partially torn biceps tendon that plagued him last season while he was with the New York Jets, and he spent part of his summer working out with a high school team near his home in Mississippi.

When Favre rejected the Vikings last month, he told ESPN: "It was the hardest decision I've ever made. I didn't feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable... I had to be careful not to commit for the wrong reasons. They were telling me, 'You went through all this, you had the surgery and you've got to finish it off.' But I have legitimate reasons for my decision. I'm 39 with a lot of sacks to my name."

But signing with the Vikings would enable Favre, who turns 40 in October, to play two games this season against the Green Bay Packers, his longtime team that he left last summer after clashing with the club, and General Manager Ted Thompson in particular.

The move also could make the Vikings a leading Super Bowl contender in the NFC. The team has a dynamic running back in Adrian Peterson, a solid offensive line and a capable defense.

Favre is familiar with the Vikings' offensive system and their coaching staff, with previously existing relationships with Childress and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell. Favre was friendly with Childress when Childress coached at the University of Wisconsin in the 1990s, and Bevell formerly was Favre's quarterbacks coach with the Packers.

The Vikings reportedly were the team for which Favre wanted to play last season. But the Packers were unwilling then to permit him to play for a division rival and traded him instead to the Jets.

Favre spent 16 seasons with the Packers before leaving the franchise unceremoniously last summer. He retired following a highly successful 2007 season in which he played well and the Packers reached the NFC title game before losing in overtime. The Packers made plans to move on with Aaron Rodgers as their starter at quarterback. Favre changed his mind and decided to continue playing but was at odds with Thompson and the organization over his proposed return, and the Packers traded him to the Jets.

Favre was only the league's 21st-rated passer last season while with the Jets, throwing 22 interceptions to go with his 22 touchdown passes. He and the team played poorly down the stretch, and the Jets missed the playoffs and fired Eric Mangini as their coach. Several Jets players were publicly critical of Favre after the season.

He announced another retirement this past offseason. But the Jets released him off their reserve-retired list following an NFL draft in which they traded up to select potential replacement Mark Sanchez, and Favre began toying with another return.

Some in and around the league suspected even after Favre rejected the Vikings' offer to report to their training camp that Favre wasn't done playing, and the speculation about a return intensified Monday when Fox reported that many within the Minnesota organization, including players and coaches, remained convinced that Favre would play for the team this season.

Favre has 65,127 career passing yards, with 464 touchdowns and 310 interceptions. He presumably takes over as the Vikings' starter. Without Favre, the Vikings planned to have Sage Rosenfels, obtained in an offseason traded with the Houston Texans, and Tarvaris Jackson compete for the starting job.

ATTENTION: Amherst, NY is a "Text Free Town"

The Town of Amherst is officially “a text-free town.”

The Town Board voted, 5-1, Monday to approve a townwide ban on text messaging on mobile devices while driving. Anyone caught texting while driving could be fined $150 for the offense.

Board members acknowledged that the town law would no longer be in effect if the state passes a similar law, as it is expected to do later this year.

But resolution sponsor Shelly Schratz said she wants to use the new law to educate students and to have it serve as a deterrent to drivers through obvious roadway signs banning text messaging on the road.

“Government isn’t just about budgets,” she said. “It’s about keeping people safe, too.”

Council Member Dan Ward called the law “needless meddling” on a state matter.

In other news, the board:

• Approved a resolution that would eventually make smaller trash bins available to residents who don’t like lugging their 95- gallon and 65-gallon trash totes to the curb each week.

A number of senior citizens and other low trash generators have complained to board members that they find it hard to move the heavy, wheeled bins.

“They’ve asked from time to time if we have anything smaller,” said Council Member Barry Weinstein, who sponsored the resolution.

Many elderly residents never fill the large totes on a weekly basis, so trash is often left to sit in the totes for weeks before residents finally haul the oversized bins to the curb.

Based on the periodic complaints, the board voted to eventually order 35-gallon totes that could be made available to all town residents. But that order won’t be placed until the current inventory of totes is closer to running out and a new order needs to be made.

That could take a few years, said Council Member Guy Marlette, liaison to the town’s Solid Waste Committee. He encouraged residents interested in the 35-gallon bins to e-mail him and said if enough people express an interest, the town could possibly place an order sooner.

• Unanimously approved new code requirements that will regulate the installation of small wind energy systems on residential and small commercial properties. The new rules would limit wind turbines to 65 feet in height and limit their installation to properties of one acre of more. The new code requirements also lay out noise, safety and aesthetic standards.

Board members agreed that as wind technologies change and improve, possibly making them more compatible with smaller residential properties, the code will need to be updated.

• Approved an agreement with HSBC Bank that would allow all town residents to pay their tax bills at any HSBC Bank location until the tax deadline. The agreement is a free service to the town and would be a convenience for taxpayers who want the flexibility to pay their tax bills at a local bank branch during weekday and Saturday hours.

• Approved a $415,765 bond to replace the Chapel Woods Bridge culvert, which has received a red flag from the state Department of Transportation for severe structural deficiencies.

He spent the last 19 months in the clink, and now he’s kicking it in his mansion. The terms of his probation stipulate that he get a job (his construction gig starts next week) and remain under house arrest when he’s not wearing a hard hat.

But there will come a time when he seeks to return to the NFL. The first order of business is getting commissioner Roger Goodell to reinstate him, and then finding a club interested in his services. The former will be tougher than the latter, although neither appear insurmountable.

In the meantime, let’s assume Goodell green-light’s Vick’s comeback. The next question: where might he end up? MDS got it started last week — according to ESPN’s John Clayton, the Rams, Seahawks, 49ers and Patriots are the most obvious destinations for Vick — but yesterday the Buffalo media made the case for and against Ron Mexico coming to Upstate New York.

The Buffalo News’ Larry Felser writes that Vick could be a possibility because “… owner, Ralph Wilson, is 90 and he has seen it all. The strong possibility of a firestorm reaction from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals would not make him flinch. I doubt that he cares what PETA thinks. Besides, Wilson has always been a second-chance person, willing to give someone an opportunity to right a previous wrong.”

'Sopranos' cast members say big-screen version has a shot

'Sopranos" producer David Chase remains coy about the possibility of a big-screen followup to the hit HBO show,but loose-lipped cast members are suggesting a script is already on the page.
It's been speculated that a major holdup to the big-screen version is a strong reluctance on the part of James Gandolfini to sign on to the project.

But, according to a chatty Lorraine Bracco, that rumor is way off the mark.

"I don't think it's that at all," says Bracco about Gandolfini's supposed cold feet. "I think it's really trying to get the right script. Without the right script, it's really not worth doing."

Nevada Supreme Court to weigh OJ release on appeal

LAS VEGAS — Lawyers for O.J. Simpson and a former golfing buddy hope to persuade a Nevada Supreme Court panel to spring the two men from prison while the justices review their convictions in a gunpoint hotel room heist.

Simpson and convicted co-defendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart won't be in a Las Vegas courtroom Monday for the 30-minute sessions allotted to their lawyers before a trio of justices from the state's only appellate court. Clark County District Attorney David Roger, who prosecuted the pair, will argue against release.

The justices won't make an immediate decision, but it is rare for the state high court to hear oral arguments on bond and even more rare to grant release.

Simpson, 62, is serving nine to 33 years for kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon in the September 2007 confrontation with two sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas casino hotel room. Stewart, 55, is serving 7 1/2 to 27 years.

Simpson lawyer Yale Galanter has said Simpson won't flee if he's released, poses no danger to the community and will comply with any conditions the high court sets.

"C.J. is hopeful the court will take a look at the record and see that there are multiple issues on appeal that should get him a new trial," said Stewart's lawyer, Brent Bryson.

Bryson argues that Stewart, a former mortgage broker from North Las Vegas, should have been tried separately from Simpson, an NFL Hall-of-Famer, television star and celebrity criminal defendant acquitted in the 1994 slaying of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, in Los Angeles.

Galanter and Bryson said a favorable ruling from the court would signal how justices feel about their overall appeals, which are unlikely to be decided for at least a year.

Jamie Foxx coming to Shea's

Media, blogs react strangely to Andrews saga

The tide finally receded late yesterday, as Erin Andrews' four-day reign atop Google's most-searched list fell behind news about fighter-plane orders and eventually other matters of public interest.

But the sordid saga of the ESPN reporter being caught nude on camera in a hotel room by a video-savvy creep is a long way from being over.

There is too much still to wring out of it, from the story of who shot the video to how Andrews will deal with the aftershocks when she returns to work for college football season to, alas, the video itself.

Although the blogosphere showed uncommon restraint in mostly scrubbing the Internet of it - under threat of legal action - some in the mainstream TV and print media shamefully disseminated it yesterday.

The strangest part was that some portrayed it as breaking news, unable to resist those stunning images, even though four days had passed since her lawyer and later ESPN confirmed it was her on the video.

Nothing much has changed since then, other than the kind of media introspection in which we in the media specialize.

What made this case unusual was that much of the angst has come from sports blogs, including mine, which usually offer seemingly harmless, fraternity-style fun aimed at young males who enjoy watching sports and young females.

Andrews was the reigning queen of that realm and a good sport about playing along with the obsession over her as the very attractive girl next door.

Still, she knew the fine line she was walking, and told me at Citi Field earlier this year of her concern over some of the darker corners of her fan base.

When one of them emerged from the shadows, it wasn't so much fun anymore for bloggers, and we reacted as if a friend had been violated.

You don't often see that in the snark-infested waters of the Internet.

Is it a stretch to draw a direct line from a lone criminal with a camera to the newspaper and Internet writers who hopped on the Erin bandwagon?

Of course. No sane human approves of what happened, and none of us is directly complicit in the act. But the peculiar culture that grew around her - remember, she is a reporter, not an actress or rock star or model - surely contributed to the ongoing fascination with the video.

Where do we go from here? ESPN has deemed the entire matter not newsworthy enough to report on, and eventually the media circus will move on.

Andrews will be back on the job in September, presumably less accessible than she used to be, and likely with her fans, in person and online, giving her more personal space than they used to.

The media never will treat her quite the same way again, but the essentials of the game won't change. By yesterday, Web sites from those of major California newspapers to sports blogs had posted video of Laker Girls tryouts. Fun!

Marc Anthony becomes minority owner in Miami Dolphins

NEW YORK -- Marc Anthony has sold more than 10 million albums, performed in front of hundreds of thousands of fans and ranks as the biggest selling salsa singer of all-time.

But even the smooth celebrity singer seemed a bit overwhelmed Tuesday when, as expected, he announced he is now a minority owner in the Miami Dolphins.

"I could quite possibly be staring at the first day of the rest of my life,'' the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter said in a news conference in New York. ``That's quite exciting at this stage of the game. I'm a little nervous. I'd rather sing. That's much easier to me.

"It's a storied franchise, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I'm going to try to make it to my seat because my knees are a little weak.''

Anthony becomes the latest celebrity to partner with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, joining Jimmy Buffett (whose beer is now part of Land Shark Stadium's name) and minority owners Gloria and Emilio Estefan.

Anthony did not disclose his percentage in the team, which isn't believed to be large. ``This is a money transaction. Mark is writing a check to be an owner,'' Ross said. ``This isn't any barter where he is being paid to perform.''

Anthony, who lives in New York City but is looking for a residence in Miami, said he was

``raised in a sports family'' -- his godfather is former Giants coach Jim Fassel. He began considering investing in a sports team three years ago and approached the Dolphins a few months ago after learning Ross was receptive to adding partners.

``We had a meeting, and what I walked away with was his passion and enthusiasm was just unmatched,'' Anthony said. ``I had never seen anything like it. We had the same vision for what the Miami Dolphins could and should be. To have this opportunity at this stage of my life, I couldn't be more excited, more proud. I'm looking forward to being part of this storied franchise and rolling up my sleeves and going to work. It's a no-brainer.''

Anthony, 40, will sing the national anthem at the Oct. 12 Jets-at-Dolphins Monday night game, which was designated as the signature event of the NFL's celebration of Hispanic Heritage month. The Dolphins were noncommittal about whether Anthony will perform at any other games or what else he would do as a limited partner.

``We're in the middle of figuring that out,'' Anthony said. ``The most important thing is Steve is open. I want to fly to Miami right now and sit at my desk. There's a lot to do, especially carving out where and how I can be most effective in the organization. One of the first calls I'm going to make is to Emilio and Gloria.''

Anthony and his wife, actress Jennifer Lopez, donned Dolphins jerseys at Tuesday's news conference. Lopez was not announced as a minority owner, but Anthony joked, ``By default, she owns everything I do. Of my share, she owns a majority.'' He also said the couple ``will be spending a lot of time [in Miami], which Jennifer is ecstatic about.''

Ross said adding Anthony was appealing because ``I want this team to be representative of the community. Having Marc, Emilio and Gloria is part of that.

``They're great representatives of the Latin community, and there will be a few more people that will join them. We recognize the importance the team has in the community, and them all having ownership in that is an important way of showing that.''

Ross, a real estate developer, said, ``While we're going through troubled times, fortunately, I don't need to bring in partners. It had no impact. Who my partners were was more important than the money aspect because of what they can help contribute to building this franchise and really being the leading professional sports team in the state of Florida if not the country.''
Anthony said he's ``looking forward to meeting'' Bill Parcells and coach Tony Sparano.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and ESPN president George Bodenheimer, who both attended the Anthony news conference, also announced that the league and the Dolphins will host a flag-football regional tournament Oct. 10 and that Suzy Kolber and Michele Tafoya will host an MNF Chalk Talk luncheon Oct. 12 at LandShark Stadium for 300 invited guests.

Ben Roethlisberger Accused of Sexual Assault

A woman claims Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger lured her into a hotel room, then sexually assaulted her, according to a new lawsuit.

Andrea McNulty claims in her civil lawsuit filed in Washoe County, Nevada, this year's Super Bowl winner asked her to come to his hotel room in July, 2008 -- and then forced her to have sex with him.

McNulty -- an employee at the Harrah's Hotel in Reno -- is suing for sexual assault and battery, false imprisonment and infliction of emotional distress.

Ben denies all of McNulty's allegations. Roethlisberger's lawyer told ProFootballTalk.com, "The timing of the lawsuit and the absence of a criminal complaint and a criminal investigation are the most compelling evidence of the absence of any criminal conduct."

Roethlisberger was in Reno at the time of the alleged incident for a celebrity golf tournament.

Coincidentally, Big Ben was photographed in Nevada this weekend for a different celebrity golf tournament, in which he shot a few rounds with Michael Jordan (see photo below).

Ben was reportedly served with the legal papers at some point over the weekend -- but so far it's unclear if he got the papers before or after the tourney.
